Intent

At Lostock Hall Academy, our Computing curriculum aims to inspire all students to become confident, responsible and digitally literate citizens. Through an inclusive and engaging curriculum, students develop a secure understanding of the key strands of Computer Science, Digital Literacy and Creative Media. We encourage curiosity, creativity and problem-solving, enabling every learner to recognise the opportunities that technology provides while understanding the ethical, social and environmental responsibilities that come with living in a digital world. 

By setting high expectations and supporting all students to succeed, we nurture ambitious, resilient young people who are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in an increasingly technological society.  

 

Implementation

Our Computing curriculum is carefully sequenced to build knowledge and skills over time, allowing students to revisit and deepen their understanding of fundamental concepts. Students develop computational thinking, programming expertise, digital creativity and an awareness of online safety through a broad and balanced range of learning experiences. 

Through practical application, collaborative learning and challenging problem-solving activities, students are encouraged to think logically, communicate effectively and use technology purposefully. The curriculum is designed to be accessible to all learners, ensuring that every student can participate, achieve and develop confidence in their digital capabilities.

The Computing curriculum provides students with a strong foundation for further study, employment and lifelong learning in an increasingly digital world. Students leave Lostock Hall Academy with the knowledge, confidence and practical skills needed to pursue a wide range of technology-based qualifications, apprenticeships and career pathways. 

Through programming, creative media design and computational thinking, students learn how to analyse, decompose and solve complex problems. They develop the resilience, adaptability and digital competence required to contribute positively to their communities and to succeed in their future education and careers as responsible, ambitious citizens.
