Intent
The intent of the English Language and Literature curriculum is to develop confident, fluent and inquisitive learners through the exploration of a rich and diverse range of texts, ideas and experiences. In line with the vision of Lostock Hall Academy, we seek to inspire aspirations for all students by fostering a love of language and literature within a safe, inclusive and intellectually stimulating learning environment.
As readers, students encounter a broad and challenging range of fiction, non-fiction and literary heritage texts. Through these experiences, they develop as thoughtful, reflective and critical readers who can engage deeply with meaning, analyse the impact of language and communicate their ideas with confidence and insight. We aim to nurture a lifelong appreciation of reading and establish a culture in which every student can find enjoyment, challenge and success.
As writers, students are taught to write accurately, fluently and effectively for a range of purposes and audiences. They develop the knowledge and skills required for future study, employment and active participation in society, while also having opportunities to experiment with language, explore their creativity and discover their own writer's voice.
As communicators, students are encouraged to listen with empathy and respect, express themselves clearly and develop into articulate, confident speakers who can contribute thoughtfully in a variety of contexts. Through discussion, debate and collaboration, they learn to value different perspectives and communicate with purpose and integrity.
Implementation
