Intent
At Lostock Hall Academy, our History curriculum inspires students to develop a deep understanding of the past and its significance in shaping the modern world. Through the study of key historical concepts, including causation, interpretation, historical enquiry, significance, consequence, inference, similarity and difference, students learn to think critically, question evidence and develop informed perspectives.
We aim to foster curiosity, ambition and a lifelong interest in history by exploring the people, events and ideas that have influenced society. Through an inclusive curriculum that values diverse experiences and viewpoints, students deepen their social, moral, cultural and intellectual understanding of the world around them.
History lessons encourage discussion, collaboration and intellectual challenge. Students are supported to move beyond the recall of facts, developing the confidence to analyse evidence, evaluate interpretations and form their own well-reasoned judgements. In doing so, they become reflective, resilient learners who are prepared to contribute positively to their communities and future society.
Implementation
Our History curriculum is carefully sequenced to build knowledge and skills over time, enabling all students to make meaningful connections between historical periods, themes and concepts.
