Intent
Our aim is to deliver a high-quality, ambitious and inclusive Music curriculum that is carefully sequenced and designed to progressively develop students' technical, constructive and expressive musical knowledge.
Students build technical expertise through performing and singing, deepen their understanding of how music is created and structured, and develop the confidence to compose meaningful music that communicates ideas, emotions and experiences. Through excellent teaching and high expectations, every student is supported to engage, participate and thrive, regardless of their starting point, resulting in a rich, well-rounded musical education that inspires creativity, aspiration and lifelong appreciation of the arts.
Implementation
The Music curriculum is delivered through a carefully planned learning journey that enables students to build knowledge and skills over time. Lessons provide opportunities for students to perform, compose, listen and evaluate across a wide range of musical styles, cultures and traditions. Through collaborative and independent learning, students develop resilience, confidence, creativity and self-expression while experiencing the joy and discipline of music-making.
Impact
The Music curriculum equips students with the knowledge, skills and cultural understanding needed for further study and future employment. Through their musical experiences, students develop self-motivation, teamwork, communication skills and the confidence to perform and contribute positively to their communities.
Students are provided with a range of opportunities to showcase their talents through performances, concerts and enrichment activities. These experiences enrich the cultural life of the academy and make a positive contribution to the wellbeing of students, staff, parents, carers and the wider South Ribble community.
By the end of their studies, students leave with a nationally recognised qualification through Eduqas GCSE Music, alongside the ambition, resilience, creativity and transferable skills needed to succeed in their chosen pathways. As confident, reflective and responsible young people, they are well prepared to contribute positively to society and pursue their aspirations beyond Lostock Hall Academy.
