Intent

At Lostock Hall Academy, our Triple Science curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity about the physical and natural world while fostering a lifelong appreciation of the role science plays in everyday life. Through a challenging, inclusive and ambitious curriculum, we aim to nurture the next generation of scientists, innovators and problem-solvers. 

We believe that every student deserves access to a rich scientific education that develops both knowledge and skills, regardless of their starting point. Through engaging learning experiences, students are encouraged to explore, question and make sense of the world around them. They develop the ability to identify patterns, understand complex concepts and apply scientific thinking to a wide range of contexts. 

Our curriculum promotes high expectations and academic excellence, while ensuring that all students are supported to achieve their full potential. Across all key stages, students develop practical investigative skills alongside scientific and mathematical reasoning. They learn to analyse evidence, evaluate ideas, solve problems and apply their knowledge confidently in unfamiliar situations. 

The Triple Science pathway provides a strong foundation for further study, supporting progression to A Level sciences, vocational qualifications, apprenticeships and a wide range of STEM-related careers. Through the curriculum, students gain a deeper understanding of how science explains the world, informs decision-making and drives innovation, preparing them to become responsible, resilient and aspirational citizens. 

 

Implementation

Our curriculum is carefully sequenced through a clearly planned learning journey that builds knowledge and skills over time. Students revisit and deepen their understanding of key scientific concepts across Biology, Chemistry and Physics, enabling them to make connections between topics and embed long-term learning. 

Teaching is designed to be engaging, inclusive and challenging, providing opportunities for all students to succeed. Practical investigations are an integral part of learning and allow students to develop the skills required to work scientifically. Lessons encourage discussion, critical thinking and independent enquiry, helping students to become confident learners who can communicate scientific ideas effectively. 

Assessment is used regularly to check understanding, identify misconceptions and provide meaningful feedback that supports progress. Through high-quality teaching, strong relationships and consistent support, students are encouraged to take pride in their learning, embrace challenge and develop resilience.
