Dream Big. Take Action. Thrive.

At Lostock Hall Academy, we believe that every student has the potential to achieve great things. Your time at the Academy is about much more than academic success. It is about discovering who you are, developing your strengths, building your character and preparing for the future you want to create.

We encourage every student to dream big. Whether your ambitions involve university, apprenticeships, a career, sport, the arts, entrepreneurship or making a positive difference in your community, success begins with the choices you make today.

Personal development is not something that happens to you. It is something you take ownership of. Through our curriculum, enrichment opportunities and Core Values, you will be encouraged to reflect on your goals, take responsibility for your growth and actively shape your future.

Every lesson attended, every challenge embraced and every positive decision made brings you one step closer to your aspirations.

Our Core Values

The six Core Values are at the heart of life at Lostock Hall Academy.

These values guide how we learn, behave and interact with others. They help us become respectful, responsible and successful members of our Academy community.

The habits and behaviours you develop today will help shape the opportunities available to you tomorrow.

Character Advancement Programme (CAP)

The Character Advancement Programme (CAP) celebrates students who consistently demonstrate our Core Values through their actions.

You can work towards Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum CAP awards by making positive contributions to Academy life, supporting others and demonstrating excellent character.

Ready to Thrive

Our tutor programme, Ready to Thrive, provides regular opportunities to explore important topics including wellbeing, British Values, current affairs and personal growth.

These sessions are designed to help you:

  • Reflect on your values and aspirations.
  • Understand the world around you.
  • Develop confidence and resilience.
  • Make informed and responsible decisions.
  • Build the skills needed for success in school and beyond.

Being ready to thrive means taking an active role in your own development and recognising how your daily choices influence your future.

Becoming an Independent Learner

Success comes from understanding how to learn effectively and taking responsibility for your progress.

At Lostock Hall Academy, we want every student to become a confident, independent learner who can overcome challenges and achieve their goals.

You will learn how to:

  • Understand the purpose of your learning.
  • Select effective strategies for success.
  • Recognise your strengths.
  • Identify areas for development.
  • Plan, monitor and evaluate your progress.

By becoming more reflective and self-aware, you will develop the confidence to tackle challenges, learn from mistakes and continue improving.

The most successful students are not always those who find things easiest. They are often the students who take responsibility for their learning, show resilience and remain focused on their goals.

Personal Development Curriculum

Personal Development is taught through weekly lessons that include:

  • Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE)
  • Relationships Education
  • Citizenship
  • British Values
  • Careers education and future pathways
  • Social, moral, spiritual and cultural development

These lessons will help you to:

  • Understand yourself and others.
  • Build healthy and positive relationships.
  • Stay safe and make informed choices.
  • Develop confidence and resilience.

A key focus throughout the curriculum is helping you connect your aspirations with your actions. Dreaming big is important, but achieving your goals requires commitment, effort and positive habits. British Values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance, are woven throughout the curriculum and linked closely to our Core Values.
