On the 21st May a group of Year 9 and 10 students took part in the Philosophy Cup at Runshaw College. They took part in debates about Virtual Reality, The Universe: creation or design, Near Death experiences and attitudes to eating animals/humans. It was clear to see they had excellent understanding of the issues, engaged in deep thinking and showed great debating skills. They were complemented by the organisers for their awareness of the philosophical issues as well as their listening skills leading to clearly and accurately responding to other teams points.
While is easy to focus on the final event; I also want to point out that they attended regular lunchtime sessions to deepen their knowledge of the issues, organise the team as well as their own independent research and discussions. I want to thank in particular, Aster, Charlotte and Imogen who, after their participation in the Ethics Cup in January, took a role in mentoring and supporting the Year 9's to take part in this event.
Thank you to the team for their participation and effort.
